Lou Lately: 2016 in Review

Land of Lou's 2016 in Review

Hi friends! I cannot believe that the last day of 2016 is here! CRAZY how fast time is flying. Although 2016 wasn’t all that bad, I am still definitely ready to move into a new year. HELLO 2017!!!

The Good:

One thing I am proud of in 2016 was that I cooked a lot more than in 2015. I started to eat more Paleo which required to me to pay more attention to the food I was eating which naturally lead me to cook more. I am really starting to enjoy cooking more than ever before. I am into trying new recipes and making my own tweaks and variations. My parents got us a KitchenAid stand mixer for Christmas and I can’t wait to start making my own paleo pizza dough and sweets (obviously after the new years cleanse!).

I am also super proud of the fact that this blog has been up and running now for several months! It has been a dream of mine for years and 2016 was the year of getting it off the ground and running! Thank you for your support and being part of the Land of Lou tribe, I am so thankful for you! In 2017, I promise to continue to provide valuable content to keep you guys coming back for more! You can look forward to more real food recipes, design and style inspiration and lots real talk coming your way!

The Bad:

2016 was quite the emotional year for me as I was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease.  I felt some sense of relief finally having an answer to all the mysterious symptoms I have had over the years, but it took me getting really sick to get to that point. 2016 was the year of cycling through many doctors and medications to find the right fit for me. I have learned that having an Autoimmune Disease can take a toll on your everyday life but the bright side is that it also gave me a new perspective on my life. I really want to try and go into 2017 with a positive mindset, ready for the challenges life sometimes throws our way. I will share my full journey with Crohn’s Disease in a post coming soon. Aside from my Crohn’s diagnosis, 2016 was pretty good year and I have a lot of be thankful for! I am very excited to see what 2017 brings!

5 Things I was obsessed with in 2016:

Any and every design blog post by Becki Owens. She is my “design” spirit animal and her blog is one of my most favorites! I basically go to her blog and save all the images to my Pinterest in case I end up winning the lottery one day, and am able to have a fabulously decorated home! If you are in need of some design inspiration be sure to check out her blog!

Slow Cooker Paleo Buffalo Chicken Chili, obvious! I have eaten this approximately 1,254,267 times this year! Quick & easy…healthy & delicious. Also, Trader Joe’s now sells peeled & diced sweet potatoes in a bag in the refrigerated section!  The easiest recipe in the world just got even easier! AMAZING!

My T3 Whirl Trio curling wand. I was anxious to try this trio out and I finally pulled the trigger when T3 was having a 25% off sale. I am so glad I did because these wand options kick the shit out of my previous Hot Tools curling irons! My waves hold much better and there is a lot less frizz.

T3 Whirl Trio

The Nespresso VertuoLine Coffee & Espresso maker and milk frother. This was a game changer. My boss surprised me BIG time when he gave me this little dream of a coffee maker. I was a Keurig user until this baby changed my ways. The coffee comes out much frothier and thicker as opposed to the Keurig. I am completely obsessed with the milk frother that comes with the coffee maker. I pour a little almond milk in there to mix in with my coffee and it is a total game changer. Highly recommend for any coffee lovers!

My obsession with RX Bars is still alive and well. I am a big fan of the Coconut Cacao flavor. These bars have super clean ingredients – literally the label says “NO BS” and it’s so true. I grab one of these to eat on my way to the office when I am late and don’t have time for eggs or a smoothie. So tasty and convenient!

I want to thank you again for your support and wish you a safe and happy New Year! Cheers to 2017!

xo, Lauren
